Effectors phytopathogenic oomycetes: the first line of attack
Main Article Content
Abstract
The oomycetes form a phylogenetically distinct group of eukaryotic microorganisms that includes some of the most damaging pathogens of plants. Oomycetes accomplish the colonization of the host tissues modulating the host cell defences trough an array of effectors. Two classes of plant pathogen oomycetes effectors are identified: the apoplastic effectors secreted into the plant extracellular space and the cytoplasmic effectors, translocated inside the plant cell. Understanding how really these effectors works and their precise roles in the pathogen infection mechanisms, are important challenges for the coming years.
