Afectaciones causadas por Colletotrichum gloeosporioides en genotipos de Dioscorea alata en el municipio de Santo Domingo, Cuba
Main Article Content
Abstract
Dioscorea alata is a species of economic importance in many countries worldwide and is widespread in the Caribbean area. Anthracnose disease caused by Colletotrichum gloeosporioides is the most important foliar disease in Dioscorea genus and produces severe damages to this species. This study aimed to assess damages caused by C. gloeosporioides in six genotypes of D. alata in the central Cuban region. The damage rate caused by this pathogen was calculated 240 days after planting (dap) in order to do so. To assess the damage rate, a 0-5 grading scale was used. The first visible symptoms caused by
- gloeosporioides were observed on Blanco o Pelú genotype 120 dap, with 20 % severity. Although all genotypes were affected after 240 dap, less damage was noticed in the INIVIT Ñ 2008 genotype, followed by Pacala Duclos and Belep. Blanco o Pelú and Ñame de Agua genotypes reached 100 % severity. These results constitute a valuable tool to select genotypes which are less susceptible to C. gloeosporioides, as an alternative way for managing this pathogen agent.
