Abstract

As part of phytosanitary protection for an improvement program of fruit crops in Granma province, plant parasitic associated nematodes have been evaluated on Persea americana Mill. var. Americana, from a nursery located at Buey Arriba municipality. Nematodes of Criconematidae family were observed in the samples received. Specimens had a cuticular sheath which is characteristic of Hemicriconemoides Chitwood & Birchfield genus. Female with small cylindrical body, tapering towards ends, slightly arcuate, cuticular annuls 132-140 (133,8); length 0,48-0,53 (0,50) mm; spear 79-81 (79,9) μm long with basal knobs anteriorly directed, anchor-like shaped; lip region anteriorly flattened; excretory pore on annuli 34-35 (34,2); vulva on annuls 11-12 (11,6) and anus on annuls 7-8 (7,2) from tail terminus, with 4-5 (4,4) annuls between both. These characteristics corresponded with Hemicriconemoides mangiferae Siddiqi. This is the first report of the species in Cuba.
