Fitoplasmas y virus de la hoja amarilla en el germoplasma y colecciones de caña de azúcar en la región central de Cuba
Main Article Content
Abstract
A study to determine the presence of characteristic symptoms of sugar cane leaf yellows phytoplasm (SCYP) and sugar cane yellow leaf virus (SCYLV), as well as to detect the presence of these pathogens in germplasm and commercial varieties was carried out in the central region of Cuba. In Villa Clara, SCYP was detected in 76.7 % of the processed samples. Symptoms similar to those described for SCYP and SCYLV were identified in hybrids and work collections in Sancti Spíritus province, with 83.0 % of symptoms incidence of evaluated genotypes. The best resistance sources seem to be in original stocks of S. spontaneum and of S. sinense, in hybrids of S. sinense, S. spontaneum and S. officinarum x S. spontaneum, as well as in a reduced number of commercial hybrids. These types may be useful for the genetic breeding programs. In germplasm 172 symptom less genotypes were identified. However, in these symptomatic samples only 21.05 % was confirmed positive to SCYLV, fact that could be attributed to the presence of phyitoplasm SCYP.
