Abstract

Ornamental plants has improved their importance in Cuba during the last years, some of them are exported with success in market. In that way crop areas have been increasing and appearance of fungal pathogens grows. This group of organisms is recognized worldwide as the main agents affecting these plants. The aim of this work was to detect the principal fungal diseases affecting ornamental plants. Samples with symptoms of fungal diseases were collected in several municipalities of the provinces Artemisa, La Habana, Mayabeque and Santiago de Cuba. Samples were processed by traditional methods of mycology. Identification of fungal genera and species was realized by morphology characters, for Rhizoctonia complex the comparison of ITS sequences of DNAr was also used. Samples from 25 ornamental plants were analyzed, 36 pathogens fungus were found, eight of them are new reports for the host plant where they were found, the others were informed before. Several species of the genera Colletotrichum, Curvularia, Fusarium and Alternaria show the highest frequency. The higher quantity of pathogens fungus was detected on Spathiphylum sp., although symptoms and pathology caused by organisms are commented.
