Abstract

Tobacco green spot disease, of unknown origin, is responsible of considerable losses in leaves for twisted tobacco and layers for marketing, in that way it was realized a research work to show that appearance of green spot disease is related with fungicides composed by Mn and Zn, like mancozeb, and to morphologic characteristics of tobacco varieties too. The highest number of spotted leaves appeared in middle and low levels of treated plants, and there were no spot in non-treated plants. Non-treated boiled leaves got the typical brown color of feofitine, while treated leave presented green tonalities. Spots appear in leaf parts where Mn concentration was the same or bigger than Mg concentration. The disease was evident only in treated plants, showing that the cause of tobacco green spot is due to Mn accumulation in leaf limb regions, that is an excess of Mn above minimum concentrations takes place, as well as, a replacement by Mg in the chlorophyll molecules. ´Havana 2000‘ variety.
