Response of sugarcane cultivars to Puccinia kuehnii (KRÜGER) in Mayabeque

Abstract
Orange rust is one of the most important diseases in sugarcane due to the damage it causes. The objective of this research was to determine the response of sugarcane cultivars to Puccinia kuehnii (Krüger) in Mayabeque. Two experiments were planted in random forests with 44 and 41 cultivars respectively and three replications in foci provoking infection, in the experimental block of the Territorial Research Station of the Sugar Cane Mayabeque-Artemisa. Evaluations were performed monthly from two to nine months of age in a sampling station of two square centimeters on the +3 and +5 leaves of ten random plants. The percentage of pustules per square centimeter on the abaxial surface was calculated. A Kruskal-Wallis test was performed to compare the response of cultivars in terms of the percentage of pustules per square centimeter. The sugarcane cultivars studied showed different reactions to Puccinia kuehnii in terms of the amount of pustules per square centimeter. In the two experiments, the cultivars maintained stability in terms of their behavior against orange rust C95-416, C89-559, C88-523 and C89-147 with symptoms of the same and without the presence of the disease B78505, B80250, C85- 102, C86-56, C86-156, C88-356, C88-380, C89-176, C90-469, C120-78, C132-81, C137-81, C334-64 and C1051-73.
