Prospección de los coccinélidos benéficos asociados a plagas y cultivos en Cuba

Abstract
In order to know Coccinelidae species present in Cuban crops affected by pests a prospecting along the country was carried out in the period 1975-2004. To identify them scientific collections of Cuban National Museum of Natural History (MNHNC), the Research Institute of Plant Health (INISAV) and the Institute of Ecology and Systematics (IES) were consulted. In that way 22 species distributed in 14 genera, including two in the identification process were detected. Cycloneda sanguinea limbifer with a frequency of 43.5% and Coleomegilla cubensis with 25.4% were most abundant, associated with higher prevalence pests such as aphids, noctuid species, leafhoppers, mealybugs and trips, and also to most affected crops like vegetables, grains, fruits and ornamental plants all in the provinces of Pinar del Río, Havana, Havana City, Matanzas, Cienfuegos, Villa Clara, Sancti Spíritus, Las Tunas, Granma, Holguín, Santiago de Cuba and Guantánamo. These results contributed to the correction of some taxonomic specimens, as well as to list benefits coccinelides associated with pests and crops, in different provinces.
