Banana streak virus (BSV): características biológicas, epidemiología e importancia económica
Main Article Content
Abstract
Banana streak virus (BSV), the causal agent of banana and plantain viral leaf streak disease, has been reported in most banana producing countries were it has affected the productivity of this important crop. This pararetrovirus has DNA copies integrated on Musa genome which are able to be activated under certain conditions like environmental stress and in vitro culture to produce episomal infection. Isolates of the virus are serological and genomically heterogeneous which makes the detection and disease control very difficult. Virologist and banana researchers in general have been taken special attentions to this virus that constitutes a major obstacle in international plantlets movement, the genetic breeding and Musa biomass propagation.
